Read any good books lately?
2010 April 13
These are the books I’ve been reading. I already read America Anonymous and Wasted, and I’m currently entranced in Sybil. Next up? Prozac Nation.
These subjects — addiction and mental illness — are two that I’m passionate about. Some of the reading is research for my writing, but beyond that, it’s just fascinating and I enjoy it.
Tonight my husband told me I need to lighten up. Possibly because I started crying over stuffed mushrooms. Any recommendations on lighter reading?

Churched, Dexter series, and a friend told me the Twilight series is pretty good…
You know, you’re right. I’ve also had a friend recommend Twilight :-p
Did you know that “Life of Pi” author Yann Martel has finally written again? His new book is “Beatrice and Virgil.” I am pumped to get a chance to read this in the summer! I literally have not been more excited about a new book in a while…here’s hoping I am not over-hyping it!
*I’m making an assumption here that you have read “Life of Pi”?
you are the coolest. let me know if i should read any of those that you are reading! i’ve been reading/watching some pretty heavy stuff lately, like Precious, Water for Elephants, the Stoning of Soraya M, etc. p.s. was i the one who recommended twilight?:)
Brett, I haven’t read Life of Pi yet. I’ve heard it’s good; I shall add it to my list. And Malia, I watched the Stoning of Soraya M. So intense. Precious is on my list, but I better hold off — pepper it in between a few romantic comedies or something. I’ve had a few people tell me Twilight is a guilty pleasure
I also have on my list Notes from a Tilt-A-Whirl.
Please tell me you’re not addicted to stuffed mushrooms!
I have a friend who recently recommended A Reliable Wife and Bridge of Sighs.
Another friend recommended Joel Rosenberg’s political thrillers based on Ezekial – it doesn’t sound too light, but she said you can’t put the book down.
Lol. Well…you know I have the same problem so let me know if you find anything light. Ps. What are yours about? Any good al anon stuff?
The addiction books (America Anonymous and Wasted) were focused on the addicts and not really people living around them. Although it was blaringly clear that no one can help an addict who doesn’t want help. I decided not to read Prozac Nation because the prologue is entitled, “I hate myself and I want to die,” and that’s too depressing, even for me.
